Following the adoption of a free dissemination policy, European citizens now have free access to almost all the statistical data compiled and disseminated by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities. Eurostat databases are available for free, and all statistical publications can be downloaded free-of-charge from the Eurostat website.
This open-access strategy has increased the number of users considerably, and has enhanced the visibility of the European Statistical System. The resulting effect of this increased accessibility is that more users require support on various issues including:
An EU-wide network of European Statistical Data Support (ESDS) centres has, as its main objective, the provision of support for users of European statistics. Users are offered guidance and help in finding the data they require.
