The current decade has been marked by increasing interest in regional diversity on the part of policy and decision makers, market professionals and researchers. The statistical response to these developments has been to set up work programmes that include the identification of sources for regional information, the collecting of data which record the characteristics of the different regions, and methods of dissemination that do justice to this emergent area of interest.
Regional Statistics provides a detailed description of the regions and districts of Malta. A wide range of economic and social information has been drawn from various sources and organised under 12 themes. The information is coherently presented in a set of tables and graphs, with differences in coverage or time spans being highlighted in a series of notes. The ‘Regional Statistics’ data collection exercise provides an added value over the normal statistical output of NSO.
