International Year of Statistics 2013

The International Year of Statistics is a global celebration and recognition of the contributions of statistical science. Statistics2013, as the Year has been dubbed, will promote the importance of Statistics to the broader scientific community, business and government data users, the media, policy makers, employers, students, and the general public.

Throughout 2013, participating organisations will harness their activities to one overarching theme: heightening public awareness of the power of Statistics and the impact they have on our daily lives and our long-term objectives. In practice, such activities will consist of a series of projects and events directed towards diverse target groups.

The NSO is planning its projects with an eye to specific audiences, such as Theatre in Education with statistical content for school children, and a bilingual glossary of statistical terms for journalists and academics. Details of such projects will become available on the website as they develop.

More information on the International Year of Statistics can be accessed at: www.statistics2013.org

The National Statistics Office this year joins more than 1,400 participating organisations from 108 countries in marking the International Year of Statistics.
