General Statistics
The Central Office of Statistics was set up in 1947. In the following decades, the Office experienced institutional changes but, by the 1980s, had assumed the structure of a national statistical agency with the production of statistics as its sole remit. From the 1990s onwards, the Office played an important role in Malta's EU accession process. The turn of the century brought into being the Malta Statistics Authority and the National Statistics Office, on 1 March 2001.

indicators relating to social cohesion (at-risk-of poverty rate, S80/S20 ratio and gender
pay gap). Since Malta, together with eight other Member States which acceded to the
European Union in 2004, first started carrying out the SILC in 2005, users may also conduct panel data analysis observed periodically over, typically, a four-year period.

As citizens with a strong sense of continuity, we tend to equate children with the future of the country, perhaps not considering enough that they are here today, living as children and facing the issues of childhood.
They have an impact on today’s society, but this society affects them too.
